MAY: LAST MONTH OF SCHOOL

SCHOOL SHOOTING
Crystal stayed home from school one day this week. She had a mild sore throat and with Covid she didn't want to go to school. I received at text that morning saying there was an incident at Rigby Middle School but that all the students were safe. I really didn't even think twice about it because even if something happened outside of the school, they would have sent out at text like that. A few minutes later East Idaho News was live at the middle school saying there had been a shooting and 3 people were injured. I panicked because though Crystal goes to the other middle school, we actually live closer to Rigby Middle and Crystal was home alone. I quickly learned that it was a student that had the gun and that he/she had been apprehended. I received a message from the elementary school that they weren't going to tell the kids what had happened since they were safe in class and miles away from the middle school. I knew Crystal was safe at home and my other kids were safe at school so I decided that waiting to explain to them what happened after school would be better (especially since Crystal was alone and I didn't want to scare her). What I didn't anticipate was almost ALL of the girls on Crystal's soccer team go to Rigby Middle school. They have a group text with all of them in it. The first thing they did ... after texting and calling parents of course ... was text in the group text to make sure they were all okay. They still didn't know who it was or who was hurt and they were waiting in the high school gym for parents to get them. Crystal called me in a panic. We had a good talk on the phone though and the soccer girls were all okay and no one was hurt physically. I called Ty because I needed comfort and we went to lunch together. We had just sat down for lunch when I got a phone call that Jay didn't feel good. I still ate with Ty and then went and got Jay. He was fine. But his Spanish teacher had left suddenly that morning (she had a middle schooler at Rigby Middle) and both classes were in the one classroom the rest of the day. Also parents were picking up kids all day and half of them were gone. Jay just knew something was wrong and it was giving him anxiety. He just kept saying he was dizzy and he couldn't breathe and his stomach hurt. As soon as I took him home he was fine again. Haha

That night the church cancelled all activities so everyone could be home with family. The leaders dropped a rose of to all the young women in the ward just so they knew they were thinking of them. It was so sweet. And despite the trauma of the week, these girls still drove to Twin Falls and played in double header soccer games. We stayed and played in a hotel pool that night. Cousin Hyrum came to play with us for just a bit too!

SCHOOL ACTIVITIES
The school had an Art Display one night and Lily and Jay both had items in it. Jay had created his own animal in Spanish class. I was impressed with his creativity. Lily's item was her Idaho History diorama. She put a lot of work into it and drew the background all by herself! I was so proud of both of them!

IDAHO HISTORY PROGRAM
They asked that only 2 people come to the Idaho History Program due to space and Covid. Ty "gave" his spot up so Grandma Gordon could come. Haha. Really it was a great program though! Lily did great and was one of the Indian girls that signed in one of the songs.

BAND CONCERT
This is what Jay thought about Crystal's last band concert. Haha. He was going to die of boredom. We all survived though, even Jay!

LAST DAY OF SCHOOL
We made it! A whole year of school in a crazy crazy 'lost it's mind' world! Started with masks. Ended with out them (something Crystal was thrilled about). Started 5 days a week, changed to 4 days and one online day, and then back to 5 days a week for the last trimester. It was a good school year but needless to say we are glad for summer!!

ASHTON PROPERTY
We went to Grandma and Grandpa Cook's property for Memorial Day weekend! We also took a trip into Yellowstone ... Lily gets into national parks for free this year! Grandma and Grandpa joined us that night!

CRYSTAL
Google photos has done it again!
