This pregnancy was brutal from beginning to end! I never had any complications with my first two pregnancies. Crystal was breech, but just ask the insurance company... breech is NOT a complication. lol. As far as the rest of the pregnancy, everything went well. My pregnancy with Lily was even easier than my first! Even her delivery was a breeze! We were driving home from the hospital when I told Ty I could do it again already! (Ty didn't think that was a good idea. lol).
Prengnacy #3
In January of 2012 I found out I was pregnant again! My anxiety level was through the roof and I felt like something wasn't right, but a 4 week ultrasound showed that everything was looking good. I decided it must just be the shock of becoming pregnant by accident when it takes us 6-12 months to get pregnant on purpose! In February, another ultrasound showed that the baby had stopped growing at 5 weeks and I miscarried the next day. The doctor suggested we wait a month before trying again, so we did, but it wasn't until August that we found out we were finally pregnant again.
Pregnancy #4
Things were feeling normal this time around. It took us forever to get pregnant - that felt right...lol. AND I was SICK (you know everything must be all right when you feel like you are dying). I've seriously never been so glad for morning sickness in my life. Nevertheless, around 10/11 weeks I started spotting. The baby wasn't affected by it, but no one could tell me what was causing it. As the pregnancy continued, I had a few other issues that came up, but always the baby was doing fine thank goodness! I feel strongly that he did so well because of the prayers and blessings on his and my behalf. I am so thankful I have the power of the Priesthood in my home!
The Waiting Game
36 weeks: Over 2 cm and 80% effaced (I was 2 cm when I checked into the hospital with both Crystal and Lily!) I was concerned especially since he's a boy! The doctor agreed that boys don't usually do as well, but that they wouldn't stop labor after 36 weeks. Basically the baby would be fine, but possibly in the NICU. That didn't sound good to me at all. We had a few scares, but he made it to 37 weeks!
37 Weeks: 3 cm 90% effaced ... the doctor said, "I'm on call till 6 am, I might see you tonight!" My mom was in Salt Lake and was worried she'd get home and have to turn around and come back so my dad dropped her off just in case I went into labor... NOPE, no such luck, just miserable contractions that would die down after being 5 min apart for a few hours.
38 weeks: Almost 4 cm 90% effaced ...we decided against induction at 39 wks because I'm a VBAC and its not as safe, but no one really thought we'd make it to 39 weeks anyway so it wasn't a big deal... again miserable contractions 5 min apart for several hours and then die down. STILL NO BABY.
38 weeks 6 days: The same as the week before! Gah! At this point my mom had been at our house for 2 weeks, my dad thought he was going to die without her for another week, and I was BEYOND miserable. I still cringe when I think back on it. Those last 3 weeks were even worse than I thought they were at the time. My BP was high (borderline high, but extremely high for ME) and I was swollen! We decided to revisit the whole induction idea even though the week before Ty and I both didn't think it was a good idea. The doctor was wonderful. He decided if he just broke my water there would be no more risk than had I gone into labor on my own. BUT I was a day short of 39 weeks so I had to wait 2 more days when he was on call again to do it. Gah! Really? ... 2 more days of contractions that would reach 5 min apart stay there for a while and then die down. I swear my body was BROKEN! It isNOT normal to have labor contractions on and off for 3 weeks!
Labor/Delivery
On March 23 I checked into the hospital. Miserable from contractions the night before that again died down. They hooked me onto monitors and put my IV in (bad experience... my wrist still hurts from it almost 6 weeks later.. youchy). The nurse laid the bed down flat so the doctor could break my water and the baby's heart rate dropped drastically (I was having a contraction). The doctor glanced concerned at the monitor and said, "I think you might kinda be in labor already. Have you been having contractions?" I assured him I'd been 'kinda' in labor for 3 weeks. Surprisingly he didn't deny it. lol. He just said its probably a good thing we decided to do this because Jacob wasn't handling life in the womb very well anymore. It scares me to think how long he'd been having problems. I'd been having the exact same contractions for weeks!
Well, he broke my water and told me I could have an epidural once I had a few consistent contractions. About 30 minutes later the contractions started! I only made it through a few before I thought I was going to die. After getting the epidural I had to lay on my side and push the 'special button' to get any relief. Then lay on the other side and push the button again. About 20 min after getting the epidural the doctor checked me and I was already an 8! Ten or fifteen minutes later I was pushing! He didn't come out in one push like Lily did, but it was still pretty quick! Two hours after my contractions started he was here! And he was BIG! My girls were both so tiny that we were surprised to have such a big boy! 7 lbs 12 oz! Over 2 lbs bigger than Lily was!!! (Just a side note: I only had the epidural for about 45 min but pushed the 'special button' 3 times. Needless to say I couldn't feel my feet for a few hours afterwards. lol)

At first JT had a nice loud cry and was doing great, but after a few minutes he was grunting with each breath. It was a little scary and I was afraid they were going to take him away from me, but the nurse said the best thing for him was skin to skin if it was possible. She checked his oxygen level and since it was good and consistent, they decided to leave him on me for a while. It was hard because they wouldn't let me nurse him for a couple of hours and I felt like that's what he wanted! No worries though, he found his thumb and calmed right down! He even stopped grunting once he put his thumb in his mouth! lol!
Once he was breathing better the nurse took him for a minute to check him out. He didn't like it much!
Weighing in!
My adorable baby boy!
Grandpa Gordon holding JT for the first time!
Gotta love the visitor badges... They even confiscate them as you walk out the door. At least I know my baby's safe!
Having a baby is exhausting, even for Daddy!
Love my boys!
His first outfit! Adorable? YES! Practical? NO! lol.
Getting ready to go home!
He might be a big boy, but the carseat still made him look tiny!
(I couldn't get the computer to upload pics from my camera which is where the pics of the girls with the baby are. Maybe in my next post? Just maybe...lol)
