Our Week In Review

THE CAR SEAT
Years ago when Lily was just over 1 we bought a new car seat. We bought the cheapest one we could find that fit our needs. It was a COSCO rear to front facing car seat.  When we bought Crystal's car seat it was equally as cheap, and we had never had a problem with it (her's is an Evenflo).
But maybe 6 months after getting it, I noticed a rash/dry/raw spot on Lily's back. I just thought it was eczema which I wasn't overly concerned about. Nothing we hadn't dealt with before.  It would get better but not heal completely. I thought since it was on the part of her back that stuck out the most when she hunched over that it must rub on things when she'd lay back on them such as the car seat or the couch.
Well flash forward several years. Crystal is in a booster, Lily in the Evenflo, and Jay in the COSCO car seat. We moved him there when he was 8 months old (rear facing of course) because he grew out of the infant seat. We flipped him around to forward facing at 18 months. Five months after putting him forward facing, HE HAS DEVELOPED THE SAME SPOT ON HIS BACK AS LILY! I took a picture of it the other day when it had really flared up. When its not so irritated its usually in the same spot on his back as Lily's is.  I felt the spot on the seat that correlated to Jay's spot on his back. And sure enough there was a lump there. As it turns out it's the LATCH system belt pushing thru the thin padding. I can't believe it was the car seat this whole time!!!!!
If I had the time and energy, I would have attempted to sew a new pad... but since I don't, I went ahead and bought a new car seat. Again. I don't like spending a ton of money on a car seat. I feel like the $40 car seat is just as safe as the $400 one. Just without all the bells and whistles (which we can't use anyway because of space constraints. Haha.) But this time I paid more attention to how much padding was on the seat. I ended up spending $20 more for an Evenflo with thicker padding just to be sure. ;-) Lily was pretty excited about a new seat, so we put Jay in the old Evenflo and let her have the new one. Her favorite part is that it has 2 cup holders! Haha. And the best part is that they stick out front instead of off to the side, so they actually fit in the car with the other two seats! In the end I think they were ALL more excited about the box than the seat. In fact I found ALL 3 of them in it at once at one point. haha!

Youchy!

New Seat... Cup holders and all! ;-)

Lily's in there too. Haha.

Oh and I almost forgot to mention that when I went to put the new pretty car seat inside the car, I couldn't do it. I just couldn't bring myself to put the clean new car seat in the filthy disgusting car that hadn't really been deep cleaned since right before Jay was born 2 years ago. Haha. So I spent the next 4 hours vacuuming, scrubbing, carpet/upholstery cleaning (with a carpet cleaner), wiping and washing the inside of the car in the 40 degree weather (which wouldn't have been so bad had the sun not been behind the clouds the entire time. haha. Needless to say my body hurt the next day from the odd angles I had to work in while cleaning it. haha. But now the new seat is in the nice clean car... if only I could keep it that way... lol.

TY'S BIRTHDAY AFTER HIS BIRTHDAY
Ty's parents were out of town on his birthday so we went over the next day for a birthday dinner. Since I didn't take any pictures of his actual birthday, I thought I'd get some of his After Birthday Birthday. Haha.

He got up in the chair on his own!

Give me cake!! NOW!!!!

 PRESCHOOL THIS WEEK
Making queen q's

Making our own constellations. Jay got to help too!

THE TRAIN
Jay is suddenly obsessed with trains (not as obsessed as he is with vacuums and brooms, but pretty close. haha). I remembered that we had a wooden train in a box that we got Crystal when she was his age, so I pulled it out for him the other day. He LOVES it. (Can you tell he loves shoes too? haha).

 $5 FIND
Ty found a toy weed eater at Walmart on super clearance for $5. Jay LOVES it. And he thinks its a vacuum. Of course. Haha.

DUMB DOG
We are down 3 kleenex boxes this year because of him... he just never learns. GAH!!!!

HOME DEPOT KID'S WORKSHOP
The past few months Ty has taken the girls to Home Depot's Kid's Workshop the first Saturday of the month. This month they made book ends. It is always super crowded there, but the girls love it so much!

RAIN GUTTERS
We bought rain gutters this weekend! Now to just get them up on the house!!! Haha! This is the first step to getting our basement finished, since we have water leaking in from somewhere. Once we get them up, the next step will be opening up the wall insulation to look for cracks and hopefully sealing them the best we can to fix the problem.
Anyway the only reason I took a picture is because Jay was being so funny. We had him sitting on the cart while walking thru the store, and he was VERY upset when we sat the rain gutter supplies on it with him. There was still plenty of room for him but he insisted that it all had to go. While we waited in line he kept giving me handfuls of supplies as he voiced his frustration of the situation. I was laughing so hard. And when my hands were full, and I had to put them back, he was NOT happy. Oy.

'EEP!
We walked down the street from Ty's parent's house Saturday to see the baby sheep... and the mamma sheep as well. Jay saw them and started yelling, "'EEP! 'EEP!" It was pretty adorable. The girls had the sheep convinced they were going to feed them, but then handed them straw from the ground. I felt kinda bad since ALL the sheep came running over, and we had no real food to give them! Jay was pretty upset when we left. He yelled, "I walk 'eep! I walk 'eep!" because he wanted me to put him down so he could walk back to the sheep. He even accidentally put a /sh/ in front of the /eep/ once in his frustration and said the whole word. haha.

Playing in the tree at Grandma's house.

ANNIE
We went to see Grandma Leslie's school put on the play 'Annie' Saturday night.  They did an awesome job. You'd never believe it was all just 4-6th graders. Jay made it about halfway thru the play ... maybe more ... before he was done sitting so Ty didn't really get to see the end. He was chasing Jay around. Crystal enjoyed it at first but got pretty tired of it towards the end as well. Lily was an angel which is a miracle in and of itself. haha.

PRIZES FROM DISNEY WORLD
Grandma and Grandpa Gordon just got back from Disney World and brought the kids prizes! The girls got Frozen Wands and a Princess sweatshirt and Minnie Pants, and Jay got a sword and a Cars jacket! They were all pretty excited about it! But they were most excited to have Grandma and Grandpa home again!
