MOM FAIL

Well Tuesday I went to go visiting teaching two doors down from my house. The kids didn't want to come and I knew they knew where I was going because in the summer they usually run back and forth from their house to our house while I'm visiting them. I told Lily about 5 times that I was going to be 2 houses down. The place I always go to visit teach. I asked her if she knew what I was talking about. She said yes several times. I told Jay where I was going and asked him if he knew where I was going. He said, "Rocky's" (our next door neighbor). I said "No the house next to Rocky's." I asked him again and he said "The house next to Rocky's." Okay so they definitely know where I am. I'm only a few feet away if they need me so I really didn't feel like I was leaving them alone. 30 seconds away. I put Netflix on for them and told them not to leave the house unless there was a fire! Haha. Apparently a few minutes after I left, Jay decided he wanted another hug. Lily decided to take him to me. (I totally expected this. Of course my kids aren't going to stay in the house when I tell them to). The dog was in the house, and she didn't want to let him out so she locked the door and closed it behind her!!!! Then she realized she didn't know where I was! I'm not sure why she didn't remember where I was. Or why Jay didn't tell her (when we got home I asked Jay where I was and he said, "The house next to Rocky's."). But they sat outside for 30 minutes before I kind stranger found them and took them to my neighbor's house to get warm. A few minutes later I came out and the stranger was still on the sidewalk attempting to leave me a note letting me know where my children were. I felt so awful! I had no doubt in my mind that they knew where I was and would have no problem finding me. Oy! I can't even describe how horrible I felt. And all the things that could have happened that didn't (thank goodness).
I took my girls to dance later that day still feeling like a horrible mother and sick to my stomach about what had happened. My sister in law walked up to my SUV (Jay and I usually sit in the vehicle during class) with a hot pan of cinnamon rolls... AND a fork! Haha. So I could eat them right away! She had no way of knowing the kind of day I'd had, but made my day so much better because of her kindness. She then sat outside my truck in the cold and listened to and comforted me!

PS. We may have had cinnamon rolls for dinner that night as well. Haha.
